8 days in hospital

News

This is just a quick blog post to let you know that I’ve been in hospital for the past eight days and was discharged yesterday.  I’m working from home for a couple of days and plan to be back in the office on Monday.  Last Wednesday I decided to ride my motorcycle to a conference I was due to attend in Belfast.  Unfortunately I had a crash and fractured my pelvis, left collarbone and damaged an elbow and forearm.  Not good!  I’m on the mend now and shuffling about a bit and managed the stairs yesterday which was a positive step (no pun intended).  Kate and Derek have been handling queries and ongoing cases while I’ve been out of action – morphine doesn’t leave your brain too sharp!  I have to say that I have developed the utmost respect for all the staff at Causeway Hospital – we tend only to hear the negative stories but I have nothing but praise for the staff of Surgical 2 – their attitude, care and encouragement means so much when you’re lying on your back unable to move.  Spending a week in a hospital has a positive affect on your sense of perspective.  I was able to tell myself I’d more or less be back to normal in five or six weeks but a lot of people endure so much as part of their daily lives and seeing them cope was a real lesson in how to deal with adversity.  Things we worry about every day are things which don’t matter a jot when you’re laid up surrounded by other ill people…

P.S.  Daisy appears to think I’ve merely been having a long sleep in the “hoshpal” 🙂
