No One is Coming to Save You
April 2008, the global financial crisis unfolding and in much need of headspace I set off on my motorbike for an adventure in Morocco.
A few days into my ride I headed off-road from Midelt to Lac Tislit. Not far along, the track dropped down a steep slope. Once I committed to that descent, there was no way back up.
A few hours later the front end of the bike slid out from under me. I was miles from anywhere, no phone signal, and no one was coming to help. If I didn’t sort it out myself, I’d be stuck. Luckily, I managed to get the bike upright, patch it together, and keep going.
Our actions, and our inactions, have consequences.
The responsibility for your financial future rests squarely on your shoulders. No government scheme, no last-minute stroke of luck, no outside rescue will magically deliver the retirement you want or the security your family needs.
Just like me in that Moroccan riverbed, you’re the one holding the handlebars.
The first step is taking responsibility.
The financial future you want will be built on the decisions you make today.
